Turkey Day

Let's hear it for Annie, whipping out a 19:15 and a seventh place overall finish at the Turkey Day Run. Not too shabby, when you consider that the race had over 4,000 finishers.

The West Ashley crowd continues to represent. See everyone on Sunday morning.

Trying to train at 8000 feet...

With the roads in the neighbourhood covered in snow, the safest place to run is on the trails where no attempt has been made to clear the snow - so there's no lethal ice. It's pretty heavy going wherever it's deep and I've only managed about a 9'30" pace on my long run.
Hill repeats are no problem. Start at 8000 feet and run/fast walk up 7 minutes at a time up to 10,000 feet - running downhill for 25 minutes home is kind of fun....
Only managed 3 runs since I got here - hope the Altitude effect is going to carry me through Kiawah, because I'm about 2 weeks behind my schedule.
Will try and snap some pics from a training run or two. Miss you guys :)

Phoenix update

Ran the Undy 5000 Road Race on Saturday in downtown Phoenix. Flat and scenic.

This photo was taken this morning at South Mountain Park, a park approximately the size of James Island (by which I mean the entire island) full of trails. It was packed with runners, hikers and more mountain bikes than I've ever seen in one place.

Fast 10 Miler

Let's hear it for Cami who finished 3rd overall at the Folly 10 Miler (1:09:29). This crowd just keep getting faster, and just in time. Kiawah looms on the horizon.

New David Quick Blog

As highlighted in this Post and Courier column today, David Quick is launching his new blog (click here to see it). In addition to running, he indicates that "It will encompass cycling, swimming, adventure racing and related health stories." I put a link to it on our "Local Running Resources" list.

We had all the usual suspects on Sunday morning. In addition to our folks training for Kiawah, we also had some discussion about the upcoming shorter races. So many choices. We'll see if we can get a short list of races we definitely intend to run.

Kiawah Prep

I am off to Colorado on Friday for 2 weeks. Planning on doing a long run out at Kiawah on Thursday, if anybody is interested ?? Talk details tomorrow.

James Island Connector 10k

Entered this with the intent of running it as a tempo run at Marathon Pace, but got caught up in the race and ended up more at Half Marathon Pace. Finished in just over 44mins, which surpisingly took second in 40-44 category. Not much of a turn-out for what is really quite a good race and a nice change to the %#@&ing plethora of 5k runs around here.

OVERALL RESULTS
1 Anne Clinton 27 Charleston SC 38:19
2 Guinn Garrett 24 Charleston SC 40:52
3 Andrea Criscio 20 Charleston SC 41:12

1 Neville Miller 26 Mt. Pleasant SC 33:26
2 Wells Johnson 22 Summerville SC 34:52
3 David Quick 45 Mount Pleasant SC 36:45

Hats off to Jenny, my wife, running her first 10k and finishing with a 1:12 after getting out of bed just 25 mins before the gun!!

Not sure what is on the agenda this weekend? I'm going to try to make it - hope the legs do too. Not sure if anyone is racing this weekend but the James Island Connector 10k is on...I think we all know part of the course!

Historical day for the USA as Meb Keflezighi wins men's title in the NYC Marathon

Big day today for the american distance running!

Sopagna Eap was the 14th woman to cross the finish line. I felt honored to have met and run with her when she was still in Charleston.

Congrats to the american team!
