Christmas

Had a lovely Christmas Day run.  Just a few miles around the neighborhood.  Had a great set of weekend runs.  I charted a new eight mile course on Saturday.  Then met up with the Sunday group (ten of us, in all) for a twelve mile run.  Not planning to get too serious this week.

One Week Later

The Mount Pleasant Sunday morning crowd was sparse, just three of us.  Since I'm still in my post marathon hobbling mode, I'm fine with a smaller crowd.  Only made it about eight today.  I will start ramping things up next week.

The weather was superb.   The top of the bridge was above the fog, so we had a photo worthy view of the sunrise.  Wish every week was like that.

Kiawah Marathon

In 1990, I ran the Kiawah Marathon in 2:59:45.  A PR which stood until the 2009 Marine Corps.  Yesterday, 22 years later, I managed to hang on for 2:56:55, a new PR.  1st in AG, 18th overall, and the first local across the line.  My fourth sub-3:00.

That's enough bragging.  Not sure when I'll put another marathon on my calendar.  Now thinking about the Mt. Mitchell Challenge.

Move to Mount Pleasant

I have finished my move to Mount Pleasant and am now an East of the Cooper runner.  I'm now figuring out new running routes.  Mercifully, since I'm only moving across town, I'm already acquainted with the local running crowd.  Hopefully I can keep this blog back up to date.

Hot Weather

Went for a long run on Saturday and things were hot.  Then had to work the Charleston Sprint Tri on Sunday.  On the plus side, I got to meet two NASCAR drivers who participated.

I plan to be there this Sunday for our long run.  Hopefully things will be a little cooler.

Happy 4th

Adam and I had a good short run this past Sunday.  It was a good day to go short and slow.

Good luck to anyone racing this week.  What with the heat, I plan to run a slow race on Wednesday.  Otherwise, stay cool and see everyone this Sunday at 6:30.

6:30 Start Time

Our Sunday runs will now begin at 6:30 a.m.

Okay, it's been a while since I've posted.  But the group has still been meeting faithfully each Sunday morning.  We've had pleasant tempuratures in June up until this past Sunday.  It was clear to Matt, Ann and me that things were a bit warm for a seven o'clock start.

See everyone at 6:30.

Happy Patriot's Day

A week after Easter and two weeks after Bridge Run, I'm ready to get back into a routine. Jay is about to round out his training for the Fargo Marathon on May 19th. Charleston has a crew heading to the Boston Marathon on Monday. Tyler Cross, Bratton Fennell, Karl Walsh, Jay Upchurch, David Quick, Marc and Ruth Embler will all toe the line.

I'll be running the Palmetto Half tomorrow, but I plan to meet the group for our long run on Sunday. Hope to see everyone then.

Post Race Hangover

Well, Ann, Jay and I had a nice long run on a beautiful Sunday morning the day after a Bridge Run I'm glad to put in my rear view mirror. Now we have to conduct the post mortem to avoid future mistakes.
Here's a pic with me and top female, Janet Cerobon-Bawcom.

Daylight Savings Time

Congrats to Cami who got fifth in her age group at the Sarasota Half Marathon. The races just keep piling up.

My apologies to Jay, who remembered to set his clock forward. Jay gets props for keeping the streak alive. He caught me on my first mile as he was on his last. I'll remember this weekend. See everyone Sunday at 7:00.

March

Had a great time at the Black Mountain Marathon. Best volunteers ever. No mile markers. No idea of how far you've come or how much to go. Very refreshing, actually. While it was my slowest marathon, things seemed to go by much more quickly.

The Bridge Run is about to sell out. If you haven't signed up yet, I suggest you do so soon. Hope to see folks on Sunday. I might try to show up just to run a few.

Head for the Hills

Heading up to Black Mountain today for the marathon. Slow and steady shall go this race, and I'm looking forward to it. Should be cold but clear and without snow.

Anne, Jay and I had a nice 10 mile run on Sunday. The nice warm weather was a complete switcheroo from the week before. Typical Charleston weather.

I know that Cami said she plans to be in attendance for the Sunday long run. She's putting the finishing touches on her training for Florida. Hope to see some more folks as well.

Cold Snap

Well after a couple of weeks of balmy weather, we got a dose of winter weather Sunday morning. Nevertheless, Jay, Cami and I managed to crank out an 18 miler (though we took a slightly more leisurely approach), in spite of the freezing temps. It was definitely a good day to run with a crowd.

Good luck to everyone running Myrtle Beach this weekend. I've got a week and a half till my marathon adventure in the mountains.

I plan to be there this Sunday for a slightly shorter run (only about 10 miles, or so). Hope to see everyone then.

Good luck

Good luck to our "Save the light" half-marathoners and 5 K warriors.

May you all have a tail wind all the way to the finish line. Looking forward to seeing great results tomorrow!

I will be there this Sunday for a 16 miler.

Charlie Post

We had a great race day yesterday at Charlie Post. We got to see Annie's cute young'un. The weather was perfect. Anne got second overall. Cami won her age group. Annie and I both got 2nd in our age groups: "25 - 29" and "slightly older than that", respectively. Gordon made the switch and ran the 15K (the omens were good). A good showing all around.

Jay and I had a good run this morning. We caught up with the Mt. Pleasant crowd and ran with them for a couple of miles. Just like last week, the wind worked to our advantage; we got a head wind going out and a nifty tail wind on the return. Wish we could have that every week.

Best of luck for Charlie Post

Missed the last couple of Sunday morning runs but wanted to wish everyone the best of luck at Charlie Post this weekend. I'm opting for the 5k in pursuit of my resolution to get fast again. See you there!

Sunday

We had a good run on Sunday with unusually warm weather. The group had a visitor, Lauren, who we hope will visit Charleston again. '

Good luck to anyone the Charleston Full or Half this weekend. I'll be out of town this weekend, but am looking forward to some local races coming up soon. See everyone next week.

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a great holiday and got some good running swag in their stocking. Looks like everyone had fun at the Polar Bear Plunge. Now it's time to gear up for a busy race season.

Has everyone seen the discount prices for signing up early for Kiawah? It's $70 for the marathon till the end of February.

Charleston Marathon, Charlie Post, Save the Light, and Myrtle Beach are all coming up, one after the other. I'm prepping for the Black Mountain Marathon in February, so my mileage will start to sneak up. I've had a few good long runs over the holiday, but I'll be looking forward to getting back with the group this Sunday. See everyone then.
